Does the very fact that Barack Obama is of mixed race influence voters on a subconscious level?

Huckabee and Clinton: Think Before You Speak
Many assassinations have happened to the leaders and political figures of this nation and globe throughout history. It appears to be a tragic fact of humanity. Knowing this, why would anyone joke about this pattern?
Take for example the comment by Senator Hillary Clinton about RFK’s assassination in a recent interview. She implied that her odds are still fair in staying in the race so late because Obama could potentially be assassinated. According to msnbc.com, she said “My husband did not wrap up the nomination in 1992 until he won the California primary somewhere in the middle of June, right? We all remember Bobby Kennedy was assassinated in June in California. I don't understand it." Though she claimed to only be dismissing the sentiment to drop out of the race, she appears to have made a very dark assumption and in so doing, has offended hundreds of thousands of Obama supporters.
Days before Clinton’s remark, former Republican presidential candidate Mike Huckabee also alluded to Obama’s untimely demise. According to CNNpolitics.com, during a speech Huckabee was giving at the National Rifle Association, an unexpected noise backstage prompted him to say “That was Barack Obama, he just tripped off a chair, he's getting ready to speak. Somebody aimed a gun at him and he dove for the floor.” The possible assassination of a president is a serious issue and jokes about this concept shouldn’t be taken lightly, regardless of political party.
The threat of being assassinated exists for any leader in the public eye. The recent comment and joke by Clinton and Huckabee pose a concern: Does the threat exist even more so for Senator Barack Obama now? Is our nation ready for the change that he seeks to inspire? Will certain closed minded people actually seek to kill him? These comments seem to encourage the thought. What do you think?
