What’s Happening To Our Public Schools?
Apathy at home? In the classroom? Among the policy makers? Where is the disconnect with our schools these days? For years, public education has been struggling and we can’t seem to solve the problem. Literacy and math proficiency levels are low, and the achievement gap continues to grow between low-income and middle class students. The No Child Left Behind act was designed to set high standards and accountability for all children, but has really fallen short on its promise. Budget cuts and poorly maintained buildings also contribute to the overall problem, as programs continue to disappear for our kids. What can be done to change the current state of our public schools?
